ASTANG YOGA

Astang yoga is described by maharshi patanjali in his patanjali yog sutras. This is the only solution to our quest for world Peace. Astang yoga provides as with individual and social well-being, physical fitness, intellectual awakening, and mental peace of the soul. Maharashi patanjali thus explains with the help of yog-sutras.
“Yama, niyama, Asana, Pranayama, pratyahara, Dharna, Dhyan, Samadhihi”
are the eight principle of yoga
A person can not become a yogi without following these principal. These principles are not only for the yogi but for any body who wishes to be completely happy or see other living beings happy. Astang yog that can stop the violence in today’s world. Astang yog includes common practice of daily life as well as higher stage of adhyatma like Dhayan and Samadhi. Any person who is searching for his true identity or want to find the true meaning of life must follow the astang yoga. Yama and Niyam are the basic of astang yog

1-Yam (self-restraint):
The first principle of Ashtang Yoga is resisting passions (Yam)
Yama diverts the senses and the mind from violence and other banal feelings and concentrates them on the soul.Saint Patanjali has described these yamas as follows:
Ahimsa (Non-violence) , Satya (truth), Asteya (not cheating), Brahmacharya (celibacy) and aparigraha (not collecting unwanted things) are the five Yamas.

2. Niyama (Scriptural rules):
The second basic factor in Ashtang Yoga's principles is rules.
This means shaucha (Purity),santosh (Contentment), tapas (Penance), Swadhyay (Regular study of the Vedas), Ishwar pranidhan (Deep devotion towards God)

3.Asanas (Postures)
These are the comfortable postures, in which the effort to do asana is effortless. They are beneficial in physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits.

4.Pranayam
These are yogic respiratory exercise or balanced breathing. This is a yogic practice in which there is a voluntary control over breathing, through this we can control our mind also.

5-Pratyahara
Prathyahara is the withdrawal of senses from their subjects. When the senses do not have connection with their subjects, they change according to the condition of the mind (chitta). The victory over mind deviated from the subjects and diverting the senses and mind inwards is known as pratyahara.

6-Dharna
Dharana is a form of Concentration. Thus the act of detaching your mind from the worldly objects and focusing it on the subtle subjects of Soul and Supreme Soul is called Dharna. As you perfect your practice of Dharna, Dhyan will take place on its own.

7-Dhyan(Meditation)
The concentrated flow of superior knowledge is called Dhyan. When a river enters the sea it submerges with the seawater. Similarly submerge your mind with the supreme divine presence and do not think of anything else

8- Samadhi is the highest state of consciousness and bliss. It is stepping in to your enlightened nature that is free from all sufferings. When one reaches Samadhi there is a deep knowing that all is one, and that “oneness” is that core of who you are.
